Within the framework of the contract entered into in January by the UTE, Intertechne, Hissa, HCA and Grimaux, for the study of “Multipurpose Exploitation in the Neuquén River Basin”, several field works have been started to determine the features and properties of predominant soils and rocks in the Cerro Rayoso and La Invernada hydroelectric projects area -located in the middle section of the Neuquén River- as part of the basic application engineering studies.
In this context, the company PROINGEO S.A has carried out geosmetic tests in order to reach a satisfactory subsurface knowledge, by determining the dynamic features and rippability degree of the existing materials. To this end, 6 geoseismic line have been made at the site of La Invernada and 5 in Cerro Rayoso, using the Refraction Seismic technique, totaling a more of 3000-meter length survey.
GEOSERVICE S.R.L., which provides geological and prospecting services, has started drilling at the Cerro Rayoso site, whose purpose is to know the physical-mechanical and engineering properties of the soils and rocks in the project area. These vertical soundings, carried out using the casing advancer method (allows drilling and tubing simultaneously) have an average depth of 60 meters, and penetration and permeability tests will be performed in each of them, with sample extraction and core recovery. It is planned to perform a total of 10 vertical soundings, 5 in each site.
The field work is supervised by PESE and EMHIDRO technicians and is estimated to be completed by the middle of April 2017, constituting an important advance for the definition of La Invernada and Cerro Rayoso hydroelectric projects, which are part of the Hydroelectric plan of Neuquén Province.
